"Expo's" Story:
Uhavta Northern Expression "Expo" was bred by
Maryjane and Helen Burns at Uhavta Stud in 1991. Registered Australian
Riding Pony, Australian Saddle Pony and Palomino he stands at 13.1 hands.
It was on the way to an APHA meeting that I
first laid eyes on Expo, as Roy Stirrat and Don Blair had a mare with a foal
at foot, to classify. He was just knee high to a grasshopper, at least he
was to me as I had always had larger palomino horses, 'Quarter Horses', but
this little fellow won my heart from the start with his beautiful golden
colour and pure white mane and tail and eyes you would just die for. I
watched him over the years grow into this magnificent pony.
He was shown by Uhavta Stud as a colt/stallion
and won over 100 Champions and 22 Supreme/High Point Awards. He was Champion
Stallion at Adelaide Royal in 1993 and 1995, High Point Yearling Palomino in
1992/93, High Point Palomino Colt 1993/94, High Point Palomino colt
1994/95 and High Point Ridden Stallion and runner up Hi point led stallion 1995/96. He was also awarded with the
Palomino Bronze, Silver, Gold and Diamond Awards, and achieved his Opal
Award in 1997.
Expo sired two fillies, one palomino the other
buckskin. In 1997 Expo was gelded and put on the market, but by the time I
heard the news he had already been sold to a family in NSW. It was at this
time he gained another one registrations,
Australian Riding Pony. His success continued in NSW, gaining Reserve
Champion Gelding at the State Palomino Championships and Champion at the
Canberra Royal. Then in 1999/2000 he was sold to the Pollard family for
their daughter Katie, with whom he was rewarded with NSW Ridden Horse of the
Year, Champion Led and Reserve Champion Ridden Palomino at Canberra Royal,
placed second in the Ridden Palomino at Sydney Royal and Reserve Champion at
the NSW Young Rider Dressage Championships
Then in October Horsedeals Magazine, who
should be looking at me, you couldn't mistake
those eyes, after a phone call, I had to tell Nev I had just spent the money
he had been saving for a new car, he smiled, Expo was to arrive at our
property three days before his first show back in Victoria. He was Supreme
Champion Exhibit and Champion Ridden with our 11 year old son Ashley on
board, he had ridden him once prior to the show.
In December at the APHA Vic Championships Expo
was Grand Champion Gelding, Reserve Champion Dual Registered and Highpoint
Gelding of the Show. We were just beside ourselves, and the support and
encouragement that our son received from our Pali friends, the Carlson
Family, Chris, Nadine, Sue, Paddy, Dale, Julie, Edna, Lola and Bruce just to
name a few, will always be treasured.
In February Expo gained another registration
Australian Stud Saddle Pony E Group Gelding. It has been three years now
since Expo joined our family, and he has become a big part of our family,
especially for our son Ashley.
At this years (2001) presentation evening at
the Vic APHA Championships, Ashley and Expo were rewarded with High Point
Junior Combination, and then went on to win High Point Led Gelding, High
Point Ridden Gelding and if that wasn't enough, Expo won Horse of the Year.
Ashley and our family would like to thank all
our friends for their support. Maryjane and Helen Burns at Uhavta Stud
congratulations and thank you for breeding and educating such a special
pony. Expo throughout his career has excelled, not only in the show ring,
but also as a schoolmaster of young children over the years, and even today
he is still schooling beginners, which is to be credited to the Uhavta Stud.
This pony is truly one in a million and is very much loved by our family,
especially Ashley who's partnership with Expo just keeps growing.
